TIPS WHEN EATING OUT
- Ask for oil and vinegar instead of other dressings with your salad.
- Order your fish or chicken grilled, baked or steamed.
- Ask for sauces on the side so you can control the portions.
- Don’t be afraid to ask for a doggy bag. Most portions are 2-3 size the recommended servings sizes, especially when it comes to steak, pizza and pasta.
- Share a few dishes with friends so your meals are more balanced. For example, order one pasta dish, one salad and one fish dish and share all three.
- Try Indian, Thai, Mexican, Japanese, Moroccan and Ethiopian Restaurants as their options are generally healthier than generic restaurants, having smaller portions and more vegetarian options.
- Buffets can be great since you can control your portion sizes and eat a wide variety of foods, especially if their is a salad bar. On the other hand if you can’t control the quantity you eat best to stay away from them.
- As for olive oil and balsamic vinegar, salt, pepper, lemons and/or other condiments to make your own sauces.
- Dip your fork into dressing on the side with each mouthful rather than pouring it on your salad.
